Terms & Conditions: An Introduction

All of widgetwidget's content is released under one of three Creative Commons licences, and so comes with a set of 'Terms & Conditions' outlining how you can use what you download.

We've done this for a few reasons. We get a great deal of pleasure from making and releasing icons and desktops, but we also get inundated with requests from people asking us if they can use an icons or a desktop in their software, or on a website. It used to be the case that you couldn't, so we're defying convention and using Creative Commons licences that allow you to use our icons as you want, and allows us some peace of mind. (Not to mention, we think charging you $400 for a bunch of generic icons, is a bit on the cheeky side).

Icon Sets & Desktops

Our icon sets and desktops are cool, aren't they? So cool that we've decided them to release them under two Creative Commons licences. Why two? Well, our icon sets and desktops can either be commercially used or not.

Non-commercial

Icon sets and deskops restricted to non-commercial use only are marked with this banner:

Non-commercial icon sets and desktops are released under the following Creative Commons License:

Creative Commons License

In other words, you can use them on as many computers as you like, or on non-commercial websites/software programmes (this excludes Shareware). The works released under this license still remain the property of widgetwidget © 2002 - 2006.

Commercial Use

Others icon sets, you're free to use in commercial ventures, such as on your websites, in your software packages or in your publicity. And for all of $9.99 a year, that's a bargain. Icon sets with a commercial license are marked with this banner:

These sets are released under the following Creative Commons license:

Creative Commons License

What this means is that you can use the icons in your commerical ventures as you want. However, one small, but rather important caveat, is that if you decide to do so, you are obliged to inform us, and provide credit where the content is used in a specific format as described in our Terms & Conditions document. In addition, we reserve there may be further charges involved depending on your usage of the icon(s).

This license excludes any use of the 'widgetwidget' logo and The Paint Bucket logo, which remain the sole and exclusive property of widgetwidget © 2002 - 2006 and cannot be reproduced, modified or redistributed either wholly or in part.

The Site

The site is released under the following Creative Commons licence:

Creative Commons License

What this means is that you can reverse engineer the site, take a peek at what makes it tick and reproduce it as you want. However, one small, but rather important caveat, is that if you decide to do so, you are obliged to inform us. In addition, you must include credit in your source HTML/image/CSS files as specified in our Terms & Conditions document.

In addition, 'widgetwidget', 'drink pixels', 'power of the pixel', 'power to the pixel' and The Paint Bucket logo remain the sole and exclusive property of widgetwidget © 2002 - 2006 and cannot be reproduced, modified or redistributed either wholly or in part.

    Why Creative Commons?

    Creative Commons Logo

What is the Creative Commons? In thier words:

"Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that offers flexible copyright licenses for creative works."

To all intents and purposes, its the easiest way for creatives, professionals, students and non-profit organisations to release thier creative works with flexible copyright options. It allows the author rights they select and lets you, the user, certain priveleges according to the creator.
